“God Must Hate Me” is a gut wrenching song by Catie Turner that accurately pinpoints how it feels to dislike yourself through a religious lens. The song discusses how it’s easier to blame something metaphysical, like god, for the things we don’t like about ourselves. In Catholic school, it was instilled in me that we were created in god’s image. If that’s true, why did I always feel so ugly and that I was worth less than my peers? I think the juxtaposition of being created in god’s image while also despising myself was a huge part in my eventual disbelief in a god.
